Nuevo Laredo, “Puerta a Mexico”, The Door to Mexico. It is said that 40% of all Mexican exports pass through the region into the U.S. city of Laredo, Texas. This includes Mexico’s most lucrative export; drugs. In recent years the city sidewalks and streets have become a narcotrafficking battlefield for criminal mercenary armies working for the two major drug cartels in the country. The cartels are fighting each other, the police and the military but at times also have been reported to be working with the police and military. The Gulf Cartel was the first to add such a brutal and violent group into the mix with it’s notorious “Los Zetas”. The Zetas' founders were originally members of the Mexican Army’s elite Grupo Aeromóvil de Fuerzas Especiales (GAFE), trained in locating and apprehending drug cartel members. It is believed that they were originally trained at the military School of the Americas in the United States. In addition, they were trained by foreign specialists, including Americans, French, and Israelis, in rapid deployment, aerial assaults, marksmanship, ambushes, small-group tactics, intelligence collection, counter-surveillance techniques, prisoner rescues and sophisticated communications. Soon after the Zeta’s birth The Sinaloa Cartel responded with its own version, “Los Negros”. The battered city of Nuevo Laredo now stands in fear and the grasp of two violent factions battling for turf and control of this major trafficking gateway…
