OOORAH! What a glorious day of battle! Started out all rainy and gloomy looking here in Bend, arrived at the battle field to perfect conditions. The moisture of the night before made for some quiet woods. Turnout was high with numbers running over 30 by my last count, plenty of meat for the grinder!
One of the high points of my day was LoneWolf making the run of his young life to capture the flag and return it to our base. The plan called for him to run out, capture the flag (activating the 5 min. timer) then IF he lived he was to return the flag to our base. All the while being supported by our heavy suppressive fire. LoneWolf had other plans! He moved into position so quickly at the on set of battle that most of the time had already elapsed by the time our guns were brought to bear. This allowed us to freely rake the enemy line with our fire and maintain superiority all around the flag. The jungle greenery, wet from the nights rains became a death zone of multi-colored shrubs. Our massed fire kept the enemy from organizing a cohesive response to our attack. I spotted a cluster of body's behind a tree not really large enough for one. Bap!Bap! one down, the rest dont seem to see me. I drop to my belly and wriggle forward a few feet to a different position. I wait a small moment that seems like a lifetime to see if they have noticed. Unseen, I pop up intending to wax another and maneuver again. Fate has other plans, as I pop out the other two see me at the same time. My heart is in my throat as I open up on them, not believing that they aren't returning fire! I wax the first and shift fire to the second, Bap! Bap! Deaths icy fingers have passed over me to call those unfortunates instead . It was sweet victory indeed as moments later game is called. LoneWolf had survived and run the flag back in the heat of battle! OORAH Devil Dog! Good on ya!
Another battle, after a mad dash to the combat zone (captured on video by The Few?) Gunny and I separate from the main body to flank the enemy on the left, this turns out to be a great maneuver as the enemy has their attention firmly centered on our forces mid field. We creep unheard through the dense foliage. Brat a tat tat! out of nowhere Gunny slays an enemy troop who had drawn a bead on yours truly. aware now of our presence, other enemy who had been grouped around a tree 25 yards away spread out in an attempt to fix our positions. Gunny waxed a couple more on the left while I layed rounds down on the few who had stayed at the tree, smoking at least one. We are about to push forward again when all of a sudden I hear a burst from our rear. Knowing and trusting Gunny, I knew that it had to be a friendly because nobody was coming around his flank! Heres where Murphy showed up. Assuming, (correctly) that the firing I had just heard was friendly, I failed to look back and check my six. BAD move! next thing I hear is Gunny taking rounds from that position to our rear. After realizing we were in danger and fixing the position where the rounds were coming from I returned fire in as fast a fashion as I could (semi-auto only ) As I fired I advanced rapidly through the brush, alternating my fire toward both sides of the tree until there were just a few feet left between me and the tree. I see my foe finally as the tree suddenly becomes to small to hide him. I fire rapidly, stitching him across his hands and body as his return fire nails me in the legs. Everybody dies!
All in all one of the best days of paintball thus far in my young life!
SEMPER FI and many thanks Bulldog and the rest of the Walkons for hosting this awesome day!
There were more battles and I have more action to report, but I am weary and have much to do still. I will probably post more later. Batman
