OK I don't have it yet but have been kicking around the idea and seeing SCphantoms tank has convinced me to start mine finally.
I have a grizzly 660 that i use for play and hunting. I still need to work out some sort of brace to bolt the tank cover to that will allow me to lift the tank cover on and off leaving the quad virtually untouched so i can still play with it.
Right now I have sketched out the basic design of the tank and I am currently debating on what i want to build it out of.. considering lite material to lift it off...
What I need help with is where does someone get the rollers or bearings for the turret like SC phantom has on his, or something similar anyways.
Once I get somewhere with it I'll post pictures but could be a month or two till then... unless i get bored then could be real soon.

I bought my ring from Northern Tool. It cost about $340 after shipping. It does weigh 40lbs or so.
I read on another forum about using the outer ring from one of those small jogging trampolines and using u-bolts to secure rollers to it. Then using some plywood or other material to keep the ring from rolling off the top of the tank body.
As for body construction, I would make a frame out of angle iron. It will be lighter that tubing and would be strong enough. Then I would skin it in sheet metal to keep it lighter.

hmm i may have to think of a cheaper way to do the turret... I mean I think i can build what i want for less then a hundred with all the scrap metal i have lol
Yeah I was thinking Angle iron for a lot of bracing but wasn't sure if I should build the main frame entirely out of it or not. but for weight I was thinking fiberglass cause i can easily paint it and shape it around corners plus with 2 coats it chould be pretty strong and can be repaired with more fiberglass lol. or Outcast showed me this inexpensive shower wall material that will be water resistant, light and easy to work with. The strength is what we were concerned with. plywood i think will just be too heavy even thin stuff but then i would have water damage to worry about. Sheet metal would be good.. but i don't know how much it would cost to compare it to other things

Angle iron should work fine for a frame and supports if you use a light material to skin it with. I would also get some flat stock to add gussets to the corners.
I am not too familiar with fiberglass and resins. Sheet metal is not too expensive and fairly easy to work with, just wear gloves as edges can get sharp.

I would think the angle is better, fiberglass has its strengths, but i would fear that with movement, vibrations, and such from the quad and trail fiberglass could crack in the joints pretty easy. Plus the steel would be way easier to atttach your sidding material of choice to and less bracing might be needed? this is interesting to me as i have a quad we have been talking about doing this too.

Well my biggest foe with sheet metal is I have nothing to cut it to the proper size with. Wood is most preferrable for the tools i have but can get heavy. I believe angle is what i will do for the main supports. Fiberglass to me is easy I have messed with it a bunch and its strong enough it will hold just fine. But I am thinking I will use it to protect corners and smaller areas due to cost.
My design is fairly simple. Its going to have the basic Bradley tank design. A fridge box on its side with a short sloped front end. I think staying simple would be best. A cube (more or less) will be quite east to make.
Anyways the turret I am still thinking of what to set it on to turn.

Can't wait to see what you come up with.

Ok the frame for my tank is pretty much done. I will be using quarter inch plywood for the cover. still need to work out the turret. I have to wait till i go back to tillamook to continue so it will be a week or two till i can work on it again. Going for the bradley look.

Question for you, that frame looks rather close to the wheels, have you tested the clearances between the body and the wheels at full turn and when loaded (like the shocks on one side are only loaded)? Otherwise, what good is a tank that can only go in a straight line, lol.

packrat: Lots of room that one board will be cut out its just support while building. there will actually be a wheel well when I am done.
shrek: as of right now it will be one person but I am making the back end to where I can add a section on for a gunner. I already have the plans and idea for a second turret. But I want to get it done as fast as I can so I am doing minimal first then adding stuff later. I have lots of customizations to do. I just want it to look like a tank and drive it around ;D

Hay bro here is some food for thought. It is good to shoot 360 degrees and be able to move at the same time.

I just had to post cause I am gettin all excited about my tank.
Its coming along nicely. Probably spent half a week deciding how to make the turret and now I figured out a simple way that is working like a charm for spending nothing on it. I'd post pictures but still not much to look at so I hope to have it at the 19th game just to show people and get advice on things i can change or add.
