Great point Smeed. I agree that fireteams/squads should be adaptable to changing conditions and personnel. Everyone has different strengths, weapons and loadouts, even within the same position description (Some paintballs teams assign a monkey, aka gunners assistant, to carry extra paint and air for the heavy gunner. Shrek carries enough ordinance to cover both positions PLUS he packs rockets, smoke and who knows what other goodies). Not only can you "make do with what shows up", but you create the ability to "stack the deck" as objectives change. Two even squads work well for general operations, but there may come a time when you want the medic and heavy gunners to defend the CP, while the faster, sneakier ones can wreak havok behind enemy lines by exploiting the hole created by the strong side push of the opfor. Here is an article that probably better explains my point: www.leatherneck.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-14633.html

I think you guys have come up with some great Ideas. Like Shifty said if everybody has 2 or more roles. It ties into what Smeed was bringing up. we all can't make it to every practice but if we have depth in our players: meaning they can handle more roles than one and their kit can back it up then we get practice at each role we want to pursue as players on our team and can be more versatile. Then when we show up at an event with less than a full team we will know who does good at what and we will have practiced in those jobs and can fill each role needed with those who are present. In doing this we will be more successful as a team.

Near as I can tell, the Walkons have over 20 members. This is seems perfect for a mechanized platoon formation. Are you considering 3 man fire teams to make the squad APC deployable? (it does hold 6 passengers right?) The smaller units might also help with limited turnout situations.
I moved the heavy weapons to the same fireteam as I alluded to earlier. It is rather unorthodox, but that is the way I was taught. As long as you are brainstorming, I just figured I'd give you one more thing to consider.
APC squad: Squad Lead........Assist SL Heavy rifle..........Med rifle..............APC driver Anti-armor..........Lt rifle.................APC gunner
Recon squad: Squad Lead........Assist SL Heavy rifle..........Med rifle..............Sniper Heavy rifle..........Lt rifle.................Lt rifle
Assault squad: Squad Lead........Assist SL.............Team lead Heavy rifle..........Med rifle..............Med rifle Heavy rifle..........Lt rifle..................Lt rifle

Over 20? I could only find 15. Still, anyone interested in meeting at shrek's a little early before Red Sky to go over some of this stuff?

No worries. I'd say 9:00 if you guys are up for it. I only live 40 min away so its easy for me. Otherwise I'm cool with staying late once the game is done.

Shifty, I am not sure what time Shrek is wanting to start, He has 10 Jan. briefing @ 1830 and game on @ 1700 prompt. His game is 1.5 hrs prior the briefing. I will PM him and get the correct time for the game. any how I think it is a night game on Saturday.

Part of it is yes. Personally, I'm not big on night games especially since I have to keep a good sleep schedule for school but on the first Guardian Campaign game I showed up at 10 and the place was empty so I think we'd have enough time. And like I said, if that doesn't work out I can stay after the game if that works better.

I can't make it now, I have to work this Saturday. I just found out today. Shifty wanted to do a Team practice. But it doesn't look like it will work out.
